HISTORY:
The Catholic Diocese of Nebbi was erected by Pope John Paul II on 15th March 1996 with Rt. Rev John Baptist Odama

 

The Right Reverend Martin Luluga,

He was born on 1st March 1933 at Lodonga Parish, Arua Diocese. Ordained priest on 1st June 1963. Ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Gulu on 11th January 1987. Became Administrator of Gulu in 1988 and

was confirmed as ordinary of Gulu on 22nd February 1990. He was installed as Bishop of Gulu on 12th April 1990. On 2nd January 1999, Bishop Martin Luluga was transferred to Nebbi Catholic Diocese.  He was installed as Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese on 18th April 1999.

On 08th February 2011, the Holy Father accepted his resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Nebbi.

 

ACT OF THE HOLY SEE : New Bishop of Nebbi Appointed

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, accepted the resignation from the office of Bishop of Nebbi, presented by His Lordship Martin Luluga, upon having reached the age limit.

At the same time, the Holy Father appointed Reverend Msgr. Sanctus Lino Wanok, until now Vicar General of Nebbi, as Bishop of Nebbi.

Bishop Elect Sanctus Lino Wanok was born in Atyak-Yamo (Pa Mach), now Diocese of Nebbi, on 7th April 1957.

He did studies in primary school at Atyak-Yamo, in Warr, and in secondary school at Sts Peter and Paul Minor Seminary, Pokea, Arua.

He studied Philosophy in the National Major Seminary Alokolum, Gulu (1979-1982) and Theology at St. Mary's Major Seminary, Ggaba, Kampala.

He holds a Doctorate in Biblical Theology obtained at Pontifical Urban University, Rome (1991-1995).

He was ordained a Priest on 27th September 1986.

After his priestly Ordination, he served as:

1986-1987: Assistant Priest of Nyapea Parish, then Diocese of Arua;
1988-1991: Teacher of Philosophy in Katigondo National Major Seminary, Masaka;
1991-1995: Rome;
1996-2005: Teacher of Theology in St. Mary's National Major Seminary-Ggaba, Kampala; Vice-Rector in the same Seminary;
2006 until to-date: Vicar General of Nebbi Diocese and Parish Priest of Paidha Parish, Nebbi                    

We pray for our new brother Bishop and his important mission at the service of God and His people, and the same time we thank Rt. Rev. Martin Luluga, now the Emeritus of Nebbi for the great job done in the Diocese of Nebbi for the last twelve years.
