Alokolum gets income Generating Project:

On Saturday 9th April, 2011, the Secretary General of Uganda Episcopal Conference, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta, launched the Golden Bakery [Grote], the Seminary Restaurant and Gardens, which are intended to generate income for Alokolum National Major Seminary.

Msgr. Kauta who doubled as the main celebrant and Chief Guest thanked the neighbouring local community for the love and care they accord to the Seminarians and staff.  He called on them to become daily customers to the Gold Bakery, Restaurant, and Gardens since they were put in a strategic area outside the Seminary compound for easy accessibility.

He expressed his gratitude and that of the Uganda Episcopal Conference to the Germany friends of the Kolping Family [The Uganda Circle] who contributed both in cash and kind.  He recalled his sad visit to the Seminary in 2007. All buildings were in a dilapidated state – thanks to the “Liberator” Rector, Msgr. Cosmas Alule has turned the face of the Seminary.

To the team of 15 people led by Jorg, the Secretary General thanked them for their teamwork and hardworking exhibited during their stay in Alokolum as they were fitting the equipment used in the Bakery. He thanked them for delivering the equipment in form of a Grass Cutter, ploughing Machine, plus many others to be used for agriculture and farming. The Seminary staff and Seminarians were urged to put them to proper use.

In his speech, the Secretary General, thanked His Grace John Baptist Odama for introducing the Foster program which created a sense of belonging to the community. They are now protective of the Seminary as their own.

He prayed for the continued growth of the seminary despite its ups and downs following the LRA war which affected the natives with physical and psychological trauma.

He concluded by acknowledging with gratitude the contributions from Mission, Rome, Germany and others, which have made the Seminary regain its glory.
