The Holy Father Pope Francis on Tuesday November 30th appointed Rt. Rev. Alick Banda, as the new Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka.
 
Until his appointment, the archbishop-elect was the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ndola, and a member of the Executive Board of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB).
 
The Pope at the same time accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the diocese of Lusaka, presented by Archbishop Telesphore George Mpundu, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law.
 
Rt. Rev. Alick Banda was born on November 15, 1963 in Mufulira town in the Catholic Diocese of Ndola.
 
He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown, Mufulira and at the Junior Seminary in Ndola respectively.
 
He pursued his priestly studies at Mpima Major Seminary in Kabwe and St. Dominic's Major Seminary in Lusaka, where he was awarded the Diploma in Philosophy and later a Bachelor in Theology. He holds a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Hochschule of St. Georges, Frankfurt, Germany.
 
He was ordained a priest on August 7, 1994 and ordained bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi on 29 July, 2007.
 
On November 13, 2009, he was appointed, Coadjutor Bishop of Ndola and on January 16, 2010 he succeeded the Late Bishop Noel O’Reagan of the Catholic Diocese of Ndola.
