The present Diocese of Moroto was originally part of the Diocese of Gulu in Northern Uganda. The First Catholic Missionaries came to Karamoja in 1933. Moroto Diocese became a separate Diocese in 1965. Late Bishop Sisto Mazzoldi of the Comboni Missionaries was appointed its first residential Bishop with his residence in Moroto. Bishop Paul Kalanda became its second residential Bishop in 1981, after the retirement of Bishop Sisto Mazzoldi. In 1992 after the transfer of Bishop Paul Kalanda to Fort-Portal, Bishop Henry A. Ssentongo became the third residential Bishop of this Diocese.

Born on 15th July, 1959 at Turate, Lombardy, Italy.Ordained priest on 23rd September, 1989. Appointed Bishop of Moroto 9th February,2014. He was ordained and installed as Bishop of Moroto on 24th May, 201, replacing Rt. Rev. Henry A. Ssentongo who shepherded Moroto Diocese from 1992 to 2014 when he retired.

Born on 30th Nov., 1936 at Villa- Maria, Masaka Diocese. Ordained priest on 21st Dec., 1963. Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Masaka on 15th Dec.,1988. Ordained Bishop on 18th March, 1989 at Kitovu Cathedral, Masaka. Appointed Bishop of Moroto on 30th March, 1992 and installed as Bishop of Moroto on 11th July, 1992.
