Building a Peaceful, United, and Prosperous Uganda Through Free and Fair Elections:

1. Introduction

We, the Catholic Bishops of Uganda, write this letter out of good will and commitment to ensuring a peaceful and harmonious existence of our mother country Uganda and all people of God who dwell in it. We write with passion and deep concern that the road towards the 2011 general elections is creating a lot of anxiety, doubts, fear and moments of hopelessness among the people of God. Many are already sensing improper handling in the ongoing process and fearing unwanted consequences. We, therefore, call upon every one to take on the responsibility of ensuring that the 2011 general elections are another stage in the country’s move towards a true electoral democracy in Uganda...Download Now

Towards a Democratic and Peaceful Uganda Based on the Common Good

We would like, first and foremost, to recognize the positive developments that have been recorded since our last Pastoral Letter "A Concern for Peace, Unity and Harmony in Uganda" issued during Easter of 2004. The content of this letter remains very relevant even today. Once

country...Read More

True Peace Comes from Respect for Human Rights

As we celebrate Christmas and enter the new year, we should never lose sight that many Ugandans in parts of the north and west of our country are terribly suffering from armed conflicts and absence of security. Some have no food or shelter. Families are scattered. Hopes are shattered. Joy is absent. Yet these are our brothers and sisters in God, our fellow Ugandan citizens. We need to be mindful of their needs and anxieties. We are obliged to fully share in
their quest for peace...Read More
