Bishop Ordinary

Rt. Rev. Sanctus Wanok Lino. The Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok was born on the 7 th April 1957, at Ukuru Pamach village in Zombo district, West Nile region in Warr Parish, Nebbi diocese. He was ordained deacon on 31 st Ausgust 1986 at Idiofe Parish, and ordained priest on 27/09/1986 at Warr Parish by Bishop Fred Drandua.

From 2005 to the time of his election, he was the Vicar General of Nebbi Catholic Diocese. On 08/02/2011 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI elected him as the third Bishop of Nebbi Catholic diocese.

On 23 rd November 2018, Pope Francis appointed him as Bishop of the diocese of Lira and was installed on the 9 th February 2019 at Lira succedding Bishop Guiseppe Franzelli as the fourth Bishop of Lira. During the Bishops' November Plenary of 2022, Rt. rev. Sanctus LIno Wanok was elected Vice Chairman of UEC till 2026.

Holy Martyrs Of Uganda Cathedral - Diocese of Lira

On 12th of July 1968, the Holy See detached the Lango district, until then part of Gulu Diocese, and erected it into Lira Diocese, naming Fr. Caesar Asili as its first Bishop. He was consecrated and installed on 27th October 1968, Feast of Christ the King, in Lira. Bishop Caesar Asili died on 12 th Oct. 1988. He was succeeded on 1 st October 1989 by Bishop Joseph Oyanga, who retired on 2 nd December 2003.

The retired bishop of Fort Portal, Paul Lokiru Kalanda led the diocese as Apostolic Administrator from 2nd December 2003 until the ordination of Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzeli on 9 th July 2005. On the 23 rd November 2018, the Holy See appointed Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, until then Bishop of Nebbi Cahtolic Diocese as the new Bishop of Lira and was installed as the 4 th Bishop on the 9 th February 2019 at Lira.
